The well-known Holland Heineken House (HHH) at the Olympics is the venue where supporters meet to celebrate whenever top Dutch athletes win medals. The Dutch Royal Family is also attending to visit the phenomenon as the his Royal Highness Prince of Orange is active member of the International Olympic Committee. Therefore Norit is honored to supply and safeguard the Holland Heineken House with clean and safe drinking water. To give you a glimpse of Holland Heineken House and Norit’s purification technologies, we will follow Michiel Koelen from Norit Membrane Technology as he travels to Beijing to install and promote Norit 's Compact Water Systems. Michiel will stay in Beijing during the entire Olympic Games to supervise Norit's water purification system and be a host for the hundreds of visitors which are toured around the HHH. Through a daily updated weblog and pictures, Michiel will share his experiences in and around the Holland Heineken House at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. Michiel Koelens Weblog
Sunday, 24 August 2008 Roel van Velzen also meets Norit at the Holland Heineken House Monday, 11 August 2008 Again, Guus Meeuwis met Norit. The first time was during the 3FM Serious Request 2007 and this time in the Holland Heineken House. “You again,” was his reaction. “Yes,” was my answer, “but this time we aren’t purifing the water of the Hofvijver in The Hague, but the city water of Beijing." After all, I am very proud of what Norit has achieved so far. Sunday, 10 August 2008 The Holland Heineken House bakery was very interested in the water which they use for the bread etc. So I gave them a presentation about our Norit Compact Water System. Saturday, 9 August 2008 After days of hard work, I am very proud that everything is up and running. Saturday, 9 August 2008 Jan Smit gave a big concert on the second day of the Olympic Games Friday, 8 August 2008 The start of the Olympic Games!! Thursday, 7 August 2008 Everybody in the Holland Heineken House was fine tuning their work. At the end of the day everybody was ready for the big Holland Heineken House opening. His Royal Highness The Prince of Orange Willem Alexander from Holland opened the Holland Heineken House. Wednesday, 6 August 2008 In the morning I received the water sample results. According to the laboratory the water is safe, clean and ready for consumption. Tuesday, 5 August 2008 Everyone is working hard to install their stands in the Holland Heineken House. Today we also connected all the coffee machines to the Norit water. Monday, 4 August 2008 Together with MTD, we flushed out the last pipes with clean and fresh water from the Norit Compact Water System to make sure that all pipes are clean. Once again, at the end of the day, we took water samples from the water purified by Norit. Sunday, 3 August 2008 This morning I installed the two hardness removal system to reduce the hardness from the Beijing city water. Albron uses a lot of coffee and dishwashing systems so it’s very important that these systems will not be damaged. After two weeks of hard work we went with the whole Holland Heineken House crew to a bar in Beijing. Saturday, 2 August 2008 This morning MTD and Heineken connected all the water taps and beer taps to the Norit water. Friday, 1 August 2008 Today I received the spare parts, which Naomi Welman (shipping manager) from Norit in Enschede sent to Beijing for me. With these spare parts in stock my colleagues from Norit in China and I can solve any problem in short time. Norit and MTD also make use of a 20 m3 buffer bag. This is in case of any power supply problems. With this buffer bag we can still supply water to the Holland Heineken House for two days. Two flushing pipes are connected to this buffer bag so the water never stands still and there will be no bacteria growth in the bag. Thursday, 31 July Daniel Liu from Norit in China delivered the Norit Filtrix Lineguard system, which I will install in the Royal Suite today. Wednesday, 30 July 2008 The weather was very bad today. There was a lot of smog and you almost couldn’t see the top of the towers. Inside the Holland Heineken House people worked very hard to install everything. At the end of the day we got the results of the water samples. The laboratory told us that the water is very good quality and that it is safe to drink. I knew that because I already consumed one liter of this purified water the day before. Tuesday 29 July 2008 We kept the system running the whole day and everything worked very well. I was so curious about the quality of the water I tested it myself. I drank one liter of purified water. At the end of the day I was still very healthy and didn't need the Norit Activated Carbon pills - that was a good sign. In the evening we went to visit a representative of the Dutch embassy. He lives at the top of a tall tower, so I took wonderful pictures. Monday, 28 July 2008 We filled up the feed tank with water and we started the Norit Compact Water System. After a few seconds we had clean and safe potable water. In the afternoon we took three water samples. Sunday, 27 July 2008 Along with Paul Wouters and Jan Verhoeven from MTD, I installed the buffer bag. The very large buffer bag can contain up to 25,000 liters. We also connected a level switch so the Norit Compact Water System will shut down when the bag is fully loaded. Saturday, 26 July 2008 Daniel Liu and I went on with the installation of the membranes. Friday, 25 July 2008 Daniel Lui from Norit in China arrived at the Holland Heineken House to help me with the installation of the Norit Compact Water System. As you can see it is very warm in Beijing. The temperature outside was 35º C and inside the container it was 50º C. It was like a sauna. We had no electricity and no lighting in the container, so I installed a flashlight on my cap. Thursday, 24 July 2008 Along with MTD, the Dutch company that is dealing with the infrastructure and connections of the water pipes in the Holland Heineken House, I checked all the water connections and sewages. Wednesday, 23 July 2008 I arrived at the airport in Beijing and I went directly to the Holland Heineken House to start the installation of the Norit Compact Water System. Tuesday, 22 July 2008 I traveled to China for the promotion and start-up of the Norit Compact Water System. The Belgium Olympic team was traveling on the same flight. |
