Norit supports 3FM’s Serious Request and purifies water for Glass HouseFor six days beginning Wednesday, 19 December, Norit ‘leading in purification’ will purify the water that will be used inside the Glass House during the 3FM Serious Request event ‑“The world cries out for potable water”. The water will be purified with Norit’s Perfector-E, a small-scale water purification system developed specifically to provide people with safe drinking water in emergency situations. 3FM Serious RequestEach year, in cooperation with the Red Cross, the Dutch radio station 3FM organizes a Serious Request event to raise awareness about a disaster that people are not normally aware of. In the week before Christmas, three 3FM DJs lock themselves inside a glass studio for six days at various locations in The Netherlands. This year, they chose to do so in the middle of The Hague. To make it even more difficult, they may not eat anything, during the six days, and are only allowed to drink water purified by Norit’s Perfector-E while broadcasting both radio and television live 24 hours a day. The Glass House will be provided with purified drinking water from the royal pond, which surrounds the buildings where the Dutch government resides.Norit and the Red CrossThe Serious Request 2007 supports the Red Cross water program. For 25 years, the Red Cross has been actively providing safe water and sanitation available to people who need it. In 2006, the organization was able to supply safe water to 16 million people.Since the Red Cross is a neutral organization, they are able to access areas, which are restricted to other organizations and can therefore help the poorest people that can’t help themselves. Norit, one of the main sponsors of 3FM’s six-day Serious Request, donates one Emergency Response Unit (ERU) to the Red Cross on each of the six days. One ERU is worth €50,000 and consists of a Norit Perfector-E, water storage tanks, hoses, jerry cans, and a power supply. The ERU is able to immediately supply safe drinking water to 5,000 people during an emergency. In 2008, they will be stationed by the Red Cross in Africa, Central America and other countries.
